There are usually busloads of people visiting oak alley every day, and who can blame them (us?)? Oak alley plantation probably one of the best known new orleans plantations is oak alley plantation. Located about one hour outside of new orleans, oak alley is known for its beautiful tree lined entry way that is made up of 28 towering oak trees that canopy over the walkway inviting you to come into the majestic home.

They had to spend $60,000 though to renovate the plantation house and make it. First we had a delicious breakfast at the plantation�s quaint restaurant. We both opted for omelettes, mine with shrimp and crawfish and dave�s with ham, onion, andouille sausage and cheese. With the end of slavery, the economic model of sugar plantation was not viable and so the whole plantation eventually fell into ruins.
Roman’s father in law, joseph pilie, was an architect and many believe he designed the greek revival home which features a symmetrical facade, narrow windows surrounding the front door, a lovely cornice and of course 28.
